Home Sweet Home Series: Girl’s Room Mini Makeover

I am very excited to share with you this project that I started! I promised myself that I would give our home a fresh look this year. I was thinking of just changing things up a bit, adding a little here and there, organize along the way, and give each area a new look. I call this project, “Home Sweet Home: Mini Makeovers”. I will be doing each room/ area one at a time, and share with you the results of the changes that will happen!

To make this journey more exciting, I am using the “Cath Kidston Dream Home Journal”. I got this book from Powerbooks for only P295.95! This book is divided into sections for the different areas and rooms of the house. You can put photos, write down your notes/measurements and answer a set questions that will help you come up with the look that you would want for each room! Aside from the loveliness and cuteness of the book, it really is useful! It is kind of your dream home’s “look book”!

As I have mentioned, this is not a total makeover kind of change. It does not include any renovation that will require construction and hiring of professionals. As my husband always tells me when I get excited and over the top – “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!”… Makes sense! Makes me think twice before I get carried away! 🙂 Most of the changes will be DIY and something that you can do yourself. I will also include the items I will add and do, the store where I got them from and even the prices, so that you can find them just in case you are also interested to purchase them for your own makeovers.

I really do hope that you will share and enjoy this on-going project and journey with me! Also, that it will inspire you to start your own mini makeover project! All we need is a little creativity, a small budget and a whole lot of love! We can do it together! Our home is our family’s haven of rest and love… it actually does not matter how it looks like, but nothing is lost if we make it just a little better and sweeter for them! 🙂

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. – Proverbs 24:3-4

I am starting with the girl’s room as my daughter has been asking me to fix and change her room for a while now. At first I really wanted to take down the wall papers and repaint! But then, the words of my husband – “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!”. ..So we just opted to do other things that does not require major changes, but will freshen up the look and the room as a whole. 🙂

Just changed the layout of the furniture and it already made a big difference! Instead of having all the furniture against the walls, placed the bed in the middle of the room. Freed up the space under the window for a less cluttered look.

Hanged the canvas wall decor, placed the instax photos in frames (from SM) and added the cute canvas scrabble letter M (from @mymonstercloset) to complete the wall design. Repainted a wooden step stool (from @myclosetmonster) and repurposed it to be a side table! Added some decors and a lamp for a cozy feel. (lamp and pink ceramic van from SM, 3 pc. owl card/picture holders from @myclosetmonster)

I had so much fun painting the stool! Don’t you just love the colour?! The color’s name is winner’s circle, really a winner! I got it from Ace Hardware, where they mixed it on the spot! Cool! It just took like 5 minutes for them to finish mixing the paint!

Ace Essence Paint-- just choose a color that you like from the swatches and they will mix it for you!

Learned to use a drill to put up the curtain rod! Of course do not forget to take safety precautions when using power tools — put on safety glasses (the drill bit might break or pieces of cement might get into your eyes), unplug the drill when changing the drill bit. Now I am addicted to putting holes on the walls!

AFTER: Hanged some fun colored decors and a lantern at the corner to fill the space.

AFTER: It's fun to focus on the details when doing a makeover...used this super cute owl pen holder to hold the pens and an ikea tolsby frame to display a picture on the desk. (pen holder and frame from closet monster)
